Le Tour De Langkawi is one of the key highlights to promote Malaysia. It is the grandest annual cycling race in Malaysia and was initiated based on the idea of our former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir since 1996.
I started to take pictures of this annual sport event and have been following that since 2001. Most of my photos were taken at Dataran Merdeka where the last criterium race held. There were some issues on funding this annual event but despite of low budget, the race resumed and was still a success.
This is the only event where we get to see some big cycling team names from Division 1 and Division 2 around the world. All the cycling teams are gunning for the four jerseys classification as well as overall team winner.

Luciano Pagliarini from Lampre Team was one of the popular names in this annual event. He had made some impressive stage win and friendly to his fan.
Our Malaysian Cycling team coached by Joo Ngan also took part in this annual prestigious annual event.
Yellow jersey is the grandest and is awarded for the best overall individual classification. Green jersey is for the sprinter which collected most points during the sprint. Best mountain climber will be awarded the Polka Dot jersey and the blue jersey is for best Asian individual category. Other award goes to the overall Team winner, Asian team winner and the stage winner.
David George, yellow jersey winner of LTDL 2006 posing for photos with his teammates.
The winner for the yellow jersey normally can be determined at the second last stage where the riders have to challenge their endurance level to climb the steep Genting Highlands.
This was one of the photo taken during the Genting Climb. This climb proven to be a very challenging climb upon reaching the peak of Genting Highlands. International cycling team from Columbia Selle Italia are popular of producing many great climbers and many had succeeded in grabbing the yellow jersey during this Genting climb.
The last criterium stage is just to complete the whole event and the eventual winner will normally try to play safe and follow the group until the end. This is the favourite place for many cycling photographers as the cyclist will make many laps thus giving many different varieties of shots.
Colourful convoy vehicles can be seen before the criterium race start.
Is David Beckham joining LTDL? He really looks like David Beckham...

Musairi Musa, our local rider had once won the Overall Asian Team when he joined the Telekom Malaysia Team. The panning shot was done by photoshop.
The first lap was just flagged off and the cyclist had to do 12 laps of 6.7km each at the Merdeka Square.
Many riders in colourful cycling outfit sprinting to more than 45km/hr to complete the race.

Malaysia weather is unpredictable. The LTDL 2006 criterium was canceled due to heavy downpour.

This cycling race requires all the combination of great mental strength, focus, teamwork, endurance and techniques to be the winner.I hope the event will continue to flourish in next year and subsequent year.
